Question 1

What is this website?

Accepted Answer

HUNTER×HUNTER Wiki is an unofficial fan project. It organizes HUNTER×HUNTER's characters, arcs, nen system, factions, and relationship network into three linked views — the nen wheel, the arc timeline, and a force-directed relationship graph — so you can quickly understand who is who, which side they're on, and how strong they are. All data is manually curated and cross-checked; nothing is scraped.

Question 2

What are the six nen types? How does the counter cycle work?

Accepted Answer

The six nen types are Emission, Enhancement, Manipulation, Conjuration, Transformation, and Specialization. The official counter cycle runs clockwise: Emission → Enhancement → Manipulation → Conjuration → Transformation → Specialization → back to Emission. Each type beats the next in the cycle and is weak to the previous one — for example, Emission beats Enhancement and is weak to Specialization. See the Nen System page for the full 6×6 counter matrix and the users of each type.

Question 3

What order should I watch HUNTER×HUNTER in?

Accepted Answer

By arc: Hunter Exam → Heavens Arena → Yorknew City (the Troupe arc) → Greed Island → Chimera Ant → 12 Zodiac. The 1999 anime (78 episodes) covers through the first half of Greed Island; the 2011 anime (148 episodes) covers through the Chimera Ant arc; only the manga covers the 12 Zodiac arc. Chapter ranges and casts for each arc are on the Arcs page.

Question 4

Is HUNTER×HUNTER finished?

Accepted Answer

Not yet. The manga has been serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump since 1998; author Yoshihiro Togashi has taken repeated hiatuses for health reasons, so updates are irregular. The 12 Zodiac arc is still ongoing.

Question 5

What's the difference between the 1999 and 2011 anime?

Accepted Answer

Both were produced by MADHOUSE. The 1999 version has 78 episodes and faithfully adapts the manga through the first half of the Greed Island arc; the 2011 version has 148 episodes, redoes the earlier material, and fully adapts the Chimera Ant arc with updated animation and cast. Common approach: watch the 2011 version through the end of the Chimera Ant arc, then continue with the 12 Zodiac arc in the manga.

Question 6

Who are the main members of the Phantom Troupe (the Spiders)?

Accepted Answer

The Phantom Troupe is a criminal organization that lives by theft; its members call themselves 'Spiders'. The leader is Chrollo Lucilfer, and the Troupe keeps 13 seats, with the roster turning over as members die and new ones are recruited: besides the leader, Uvogin, Machi, Feitan, Nobunaga, Phinks, Shizuku, Shalnark, Pakunoda, Franklin, Bonolenov, Kortopi, and Squala; Hisoka held the 9th seat twice. Four members are dead (Uvogin and Pakunoda fell in Yorknew City; Kortopi and Shalnark later fell to Hisoka). See the Factions page for the full roster and their statuses.

Question 7

What is the relationship between Gon and Killua?

Accepted Answer

They are best friends. Killua comes from the assassin family the Zoldycks; he meets Gon at the Hunter Exam and, with Gon's help, breaks free of the family's control. The two become each other's most important companions. See the Characters page for their full profiles and relationship network.

Question 8

What are the '12 Zodiacs'?

Accepted Answer

The twelve strongest hunters in the Hunter Association, designated by the Chinese zodiac signs and serving as the guards of Chairman Netero. The 12 Zodiacs play a central role in the 12 Zodiac arc. The 'Rat' sign was originally held by Pariston Hill — the de facto power behind the Association — and after his withdrawal, Kurapika succeeded it. See the Factions page for the full roster.

Question 9

What are the basic nen operations Ten, Zetsu, and Ren?

Accepted Answer

These are the foundations of nen: Ten (focus, maintaining the circulation of aura within the body), Zetsu (release, cutting off the leakage of aura to lower one's presence), and Ren (radiation, amplifying the output of aura). All six nen types build on these basic operations. See the Nen System page for full details.

Question 10

Who is the strongest in HUNTER×HUNTER?

Accepted Answer

Chairman Netero was the 'strongest nen user in the world'; his signature technique '100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva' contains a hundred different attack forms. This site rates character power on a 1–10 scale (a manual assessment, for reference) — you can sort the character database by power.

Question 11

Why aren't the character portraits AI-generated?

Accepted Answer

This site follows a fan-wiki red line: no AI-generated character images. Portraits for 52 of the 54 characters were selected one by one from the AniList community gallery and manually verified (Genthru and Neon use monogram badges because the AniList source images for those entries are mislabeled); the images remain the property of their original rights holders. This is a non-commercial fan project for display and study only.

Question 12

What is the Dark Continent? Why does Gon have to go there?

Accepted Answer

The Dark Continent is the largest landmass in the story, at the edge of the world — the source of its most dangerous species and unknown nen phenomena; the Chimera Ants themselves originate there. Even Ging admits he is 'not qualified yet' to go there. After defeating Neferpitou, Gon made a Nen contract, sacrificing all of his inborn talents for the transformation of his body and his powers; going to the Dark Continent to find his father has become the driving force of his story.

Question 13

What happened to the Zodiacs and Ging after Netero's death?

Accepted Answer

After Netero's death and the election of the new Chairman, the Zodiacs fracture, with members taking different sides: Kurapika takes over the Rat seat after Pariston's withdrawal, and Leorio takes the Boar seat after Ging's withdrawal. The shadow of the Dark Continent also looms over the Association — Cheadle's plan is entangled with the ants and with the Association's Dark Continent policy — while Ging ultimately joins Pariston's team bound for the Dark Continent. See the Factions page for the full membership.

Question 14

How are Chimera Ants different from ordinary ants?

Accepted Answer

Chimera Ants are an invasive insect species from the Dark Continent, quarantined for their voracity and extreme aggression. The Queen reproduces asexually through Phagogenesis: whatever species she eats, her offspring inherit those genetic traits — the King Meruem was born of her fusing human genes. The ants can also inherit nen abilities and evolve individually (the Royal Guards' 'cat' and 'tiger' forms), which is the root of the Chimera Ant arc's conflict. See the Story page for details.

Question 15

How is the data maintained? What if I find an error?

Accepted Answer

All data is manually curated (not scraped), cross-checked against the manga and public sources before being written in. Every update passes a build-validation pipeline and end-to-end tests before release; the data build timestamp is shown in the footer and at /api/meta. If you find an error, please report it on this site.
